Tantalum is used today for a number of different reasons. Since it is a strong solid which is extremely resistant to corrosion(by acid or other possible things), it is often used for surgical purposes. It is like this because of the formation of its oxide film. It is also non-toxic and bio-compatible, meaning that it can be used for implants put into the body and the body won't reject and attack it(no immune response). It is also a great conductor of electricity and heat. Tantalum is also used for many electronic purposes. It is mainly used as powder and wire for capacitors, for the purpose of storing and releasing electrical energy. It allows electronic components to be very small and makes it easier to have other applications needed for that device.
